The road starts from the centre of Aldein next to the Church. We follow the instructions of the road nr. 10 and after 1 1/2 we reach the main street, which has to be crossed. The instructions show the way to farms and meadows. Soon we reach the first station of the cross, this one as well as the others are made by the Schützenkompanie Aldein. At the "Bacherhof" farm starts the "Long way", called by the inhabitants of Aldein, which goes into the woods with a slight raising. Walking from one station of the cross to the next we reach the "Woller"-shed in the middle of alp meadows with beautiful flowers. The forest road (Nr. 2-8-10) leads us to the largest place of pilgrimage of South Tyrol: Maria Weißenstein. Behind the Curch we find the restaurant and the bus parking place, where a bus drives to the Centre of Aldein too.

    Author’s recommendation

Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the historic pilgrimage trail through forests and meadows. The Stations of the Cross and the destination Maria Weißenstein with its special spiritual significance are particularly impressive.

    English

The hike starts in the village centre of Aldein. Follow trail marker “10”. After about 1.5 km, you reach the main road, cross it and continue along the farm road with the sign “Weißenstein”, hiking trail no. 10. Soon you reach the first station of the Way of the Cross. The wooden stations were built by the Aldein Rifle Company. The trail continues through beautiful meadows, passing several farms until reaching Bacherhof, where the “Lange Weg” (Long Way), as it is called by the locals of Aldein, begins. The steadily ascending path through mixed forest is lined with further stations, turning the route to Weißenstein into a pilgrimage trail. After reaching the higher area of “Wollerschupf”, the route continues through level larch meadows with a rich alpine flora. Leaving these behind, you reach a forest road, cross it and follow trail (no. 2 – 8 – 10) downhill to South Tyrol’s largest pilgrimage site, Maria Weißenstein. Next to the church is the Gasthof Weißenstein, and behind it there is a parking area with bus connections back to the starting point.
