Author’s recommendation
A visit to the Bletterbach Gorge, often called South Tyrol’s “Canyon,” is an impressive geological experience. From the Lahner Alm parking lot, near the Schmieder Alm, a short trail leads directly into the gorge. Since the Ice Age, erosion has removed 10 billion tons of rock, unveiling a unique geological record. Particularly striking are the steep rock walls, revealing three major geological layers: porphyry, sandstone, and dolomitic limestone. A fascinating journey through Earth’s history that will captivate every visitor.
