The “Katzenleiter” path is made up of about 550 steps cut out from the rock and leads along the impressive Rio Nero gorge until Aldino. From the porphyry slabs near the gorge you can admire a breathtaking view of the famous waterfall. On the way, the many viewpoints offer magnificent vistas over the wine village of Ora.

Spring and autumn are particularly beautiful seasons for this hike. In spring, the waterfall is often especially impressive, while autumn colours create a unique atmosphere in the gorge.

The route requires sure-footedness. The many steps can become slippery when wet. Avoid the hike during heavy rain and take extra care on exposed sections near the gorge.Roadbook
The starting point of the hike is the Marienkirche in Auer/Ora. Pass the Marienkirche on the right until you reach the Wasserfallweg. The red and white markings continue to the foot of the mountain. Here the cat's ladder begins on trail no. 1. The trail runs along some mountain farms to the Aldeiner Strasse and then to Aldein/Aldino. It is possible to return to Auer by bus.
If you want to descend on foot, it is a good idea to stop at the Burgstallegg viewpoint and then return to Auer via the Lahnweg trail.
