The best months are June to October. Early morning usually offers the clearest views, and on clear days the summit panorama is outstanding.

    Safety information

The hike is technically easy but requires good fitness due to the length and elevation gain. Avoid the exposed ridge during thunderstorms and take care on wet or snowy ground.

    Roadbook

The hike starts at Mendel Pass. Follow the well-marked trail towards Roen. The route crosses alpine meadows and larch forests along the scenic Mendel Ridge.

Passing the halfway mountain hut and the Roen alpine meadows, the final section climbs more steeply to the summit of Roen at 2,116 m. From the summit cross, hikers enjoy a magnificent 360-degree panorama over the surrounding mountains and valleys.

The return follows the same route or can be extended into a circular hike through nearby alpine pastures.
