Author’s recommendation
Caldaro offers numerous attractions, including the South Tyrolean Wine Museum in the town center, the historic St. Anton-Mendel funicular from 1904, the Altenburg hamlet with the Vigilius Church and a magnificent viewpoint, as well as the St. Peter ruins from the 4th century and the romantic Rastenbachklamm gorge.

The tour starts just before the Altenburg Forest, near the sports facilities. Turn right onto the forest road towards Ziegelstadl (trail no. 521). After about 2.5 km, just before Ziegelstadl, turn right onto the Caldaro High Path (St. Anton forest road). Once on the ridge, continue on the same forest road, which descends steadily, makes a large loop, and leads back to the starting point.
