The Aldein Mill Walk is an easy circular hike through the natural landscape of the Regglberg area. The route passes lush meadows, mixed forests and the Möserwiesen wetland before reaching the historic Aldein mills. Along the stream, hikers discover old mill buildings that once played an important role in local life and are now preserved as an open-air museum. The trail combines nature, culture and a family-friendly experience.

    Author’s recommendation

The Aldein Museum Association offers a guided mill hike every Saturday from July and August until mid-September, meeting at 10.00 a.m. at the fire station. During this tour, the mills are opened and put into operation.
Special guided tours are also available on request (tel. +39 340 5538038).

    Safety information

The hike is easy and technically straightforward. Forest paths may become slippery after rain. Take care near the streams and old mill structures.

    Roadbook

You start at the fire station in Aldein, where you will also find a free parking space. First you have to cross the road, pass the old Neuhaushof farm and cross meadows where horses graze into the forest. You follow a forest path and reach the Möserwiesen biotope, a small wetland and habitat for numerous butterfly species and amphibians. A little further on, in the middle of the forest, is the first mill: the smithy, whose water hammer is fed by a long channel on supports. Next to it on the stream is the Schiassermühle, once used to make marbles. As we continue along the path, we pass the Matznellermühle and the Thal-Mühle - the latter is built particularly spectacularly into the hillside.
The path then leads to the picturesque peasant chapel Maria Schnee, and as a tarmac road back towards Aldein. Before that, however, we pass the old Stampfer saw, the last sight of this open-air mill museum.
