Castle route "Castelronda" Jenesien variant B
Jenesien
The approximately 20 km long castle route "Castelronda" connects the castles and castle ruins of Bolzano, Jenesien, and Terlan: Runkelstein Castle, Rafenstein Castle, Greifenstein Ruin (Sauschloss), Helfenberg Ruin, and Neuhaus Castle Ruin (Maultasch). Hikers are rewarded with views of the most beautiful castles and castle ruins in the area.
The route starts at Runkelstein Castle in Bolzano and leads past the valley station of the Jenesien cable car to the Rafenstein Ruin. Then it continues to Glaning, past the Noafer inn, over the Greifenstein Ruin (Sauschloss) and on to the Helfenberg Ruin, which also offers magnificent panoramas of the surroundings. The descent to Terlan passes Neuhaus Castle (Maultasch), where the "Castelronda" castle route ends.
Start points can be chosen from Bolzano, Jenesien or Terlan, but it is also possible to walk only shorter sections as desired.
We especially recommend the hike on the castle route in spring, autumn and winter.

Start in the village of Jenesien. Then take route no. 2 to Rafenstein Castle. From Rafenstein Castle, continue to Glaning, first on route no. 1A, then no. 5A, and finally no. 5.
Upon arrival in Glaning, first pass the Messner restaurant, then reach the Noafer inn on route no. 9.
From the Noafer inn, you can reach the Greifenstein Ruin (Sauschloss) on route no. 11. The return trip to the Noafer inn is on the same path. Then continue to the Helfenberg Ruin on route no. 9.
On this long hike, you can decide for yourself at which point you want to start and which route you want to take back.
If you choose to start in Jenesien, we recommend walking down to the beautiful Guntschna promenade to Bolzano on route no. 5 before Glaning.
As a second starting option, there is the "Trattner" bus stop before Glaning. The hike goes to the Greifenstein Ruin and back to the starting point on the same path.
You can also travel by your own car to Glaning, park in the village parking lot Glaning, and then continue your hike either to the Greifenstein Ruin or the Helfenberg Ruin. Also in this case, the return is on the same path.
