Eppaner Höhenweg

The signpost No. 7 leads on a forest road with moderate ascent through deciduous forest to Matschatsch. Shortly before reaching the large clearing with meadow, the path No. 9 branches off to the right, leading hikers to the actual start of the Eppaner Höhenweg near the Mendel road, at the so-called Michaeler curve. The effort of the ascent is now over; the path continues with slight ups and downs always heading north on narrow trails, partly through bush forest, until reaching the Furglauer Gorge. This is crossed, then briefly steeply uphill on a gravel road and past the drinking water tunnel (good resting spot and drinking water). The road becomes a trail again and shortly before Buchwald reaches a crossroads. To the right is the possibility to descend via asphalt road and trail. To the left, the Gasthof Buchwald is reached in 5 minutes.

Continuing on the Höhenweg No. 9, first slightly uphill, then on a wide forest road in a long, almost flat traverse along the foot of the Gantkofel northwards, until the forest road becomes a narrow trail. No. 10/A to Perdonig is ignored. A few hundred meters further, No. 12 leads in pleasant hairpin bends to the hamlet of Perdonig.

For the return, the asphalt access road from Perdonig is used until No. 8 turns right onto a trail into the forest. In half an hour, the Gasthof Kreuzstein is reached. Following the signpost 8/B, you walk along the forest edge and in 30 minutes reach the starting point at the parking lot Gasthof Steinegger.
