Girlan is easily accessible by public transport, which can also be used to return to the starting point (stop on the main road directly below the castle entrance)

    Roadbook

From the village parking lot, No. 2/A leads eastwards, slightly ascending along the road past the large building complex of the Jesuheim towards Schreckbichl, a small hamlet of Girlan. Before reaching Schreckbichl, a signpost at a wayside shrine with No. 1 Schloss Sigmundskron indicates the direction. With a wonderful view over the Adige Valley and the Texel group in the background, the pleasant hiking trail (No. 1) passes the formerly farmed Marklhof. At the edge of the deciduous forest, it gently descends down to the magnificent castle complex of Schloss Sigmundskron (MMM-Firmian).

After a possible visit or short break, the hike follows No. 1 down into the valley floor, passing under the bike path on the old railway track and reaching the main road near the Adige bridge. Along the road on the southern sidewalk, now with No. 2, it leads into the small village of Frangart. Past the church, following sign No. 2, the path ascends pleasantly first through bush forest, then through large vineyard areas up to the hill of Girlan. Before path No. 2 leaves the fertile vineyards to reach the village center of Girlan, there is a resting spot under a large hackberry tree, which finds ideal conditions in the sun-drenched Überetsch.

Refreshments: Restaurant and bar in Schloss Sigmundskron, several refreshment options in Girlan
