Auer: Gourmet route to the ruin and biotope Castelfeder
Südtirols Süden
The Castelfeder hill is an ancient cultural landscape with settlement traces from the Stone and Bronze Age. The remains of a castle complex, the legendary fertility slide, cup marks, and the walls of the Barbara chapel testify to a mystical past. The area is significant from archaeological, historical, and ecological perspectives. It was designated as a protected biotope under landscape protection several years ago.
Author’s recommendation
Natural biotope: dry site with very intensive grazing, several small ponds, small reed-fringed lake, ancient oaks.
Best season: possible all year round, especially rewarding in spring and autumn.
