From Rathausplatz in St. Michael, you start following the signs towards the “Überetscher Spazierweg”. After about 600 m, turn left onto St.-Antonius-Weg, cross the main road and continue uphill until you reach Montiggler Straße. Here, leave the road and continue on Path No. 3 towards Montiggl until you cross the large intersection. After about 100 m, turn left onto Path No. 6, which, after crossing the road, leads comfortably to the Rungg sports area. After the tennis courts, continue towards Girlan on Path No. 2/B and through trails and field paths to reach the hamlet of Schreckbichl. Continue on the road marked No. 1 towards Sigmundskron Castle, following the detour of the trail that leads directly to the castle. The museum, also called “the enchanted mountain,” addresses the history of alpine mountaineering as well as the human-mountain relationship. The exhibition shows pictures of the most important peaks on Earth, mysterious figures from the Himalayas and Africa, sculptures, symbolic objects, and souvenirs from numerous expeditions, which tell visitors the history of mountaineering while also touching on religious themes. The white tower is dedicated to the history of the castle and the land of South Tyrol. After visiting the museum, descend on asphalt to the road leading to Girlan and continue downhill for a few hundred meters until you reach the bike path to Eppan. Then ascend to the bike rest stop in Frangart, where you leave the bike path to continue steeply uphill on Path No. 2, which goes through the “old valley” in the refreshing shade of the forest to the village of Girlan. After passing through the center of the wine village, turn right onto the Maria-Rast-Weg, which leads down through the fields until it meets the bike path back to St. Michael.
