Across the Montelargo to Wölflhof and Nova Ponente

The circular hike starts in Via Pietralba in Laives/Leifers, right after the hotel-garni "Grüner Baum", where you have to follow hiking trail no. 11 on the left side of the road. In about 1.5 hours, the steep path crosses several times the Via Montelargo and leads through shady bush forests to the beautiful Steinerhöfe farms (710 m). The effort of the ascent is rewarded by a wonderful panoramic view over Laives and the South Tyrolean lowlands. Here trail no. 11 becomes a easily accessible road, which leads through extensive forests along the Lusina river. After another 1.5 hours of ascent, you will reach the Wölfl farm (1290 m). From here, trails no. 1 and 2 take you in about 40 minutes to the mountain village of Deutschnofen/Nova Ponente (1355 m).

From the village square in Deutschnofen, follow the long but very pleasant path no. 5 downhill to the Unterkirchbach district and on into the Brantental valley. From here, the route heads back down the valley towards Laives.

Alternatively, you can shorten the outward journey by taking the hiking bus line 115, which runs from Laives to the Steinerhöfe farms from May to October. The return journey from Deutschnofen can be made by bus to Bolzano and then on to Laives via Lines 110, 111 or 120 (total journey time approx. 1.5 hours).
