The gorge is very steep and the path with two ladders requires surefootedness. Beware of falling rocks!Roadbook
From the parking lot at the upper end of Bindergasse, path no. 15 leads directly into the Gaiderschlucht. The gorge is moderately steep at first, then very steep. In rocky bush terrain, the path climbs for about 1 hour to the ruins of Festenstein Castle. From there, always following path no. 15, you reach Gaid after about 20 minutes. Heading north, first take path no. 8. After about 15 minutes (700 m), turn right onto trail no. 6 to Burgstalleck. The Burgstalleck (1,019 m above sea level) is a really great viewpoint. A bench invites you to rest. You enjoy a wonderful view of Meran with the Texel group. Back at the junction, after 50 m, turn onto the saddle trail (marking no. 6) and follow it to Bittnerhof. At Bittnerhof, follow path no. 5B initially to the fork towards Nals and then, keeping right there, finally follow marking 5 past the farms Regele and Kofler through beautiful mixed deciduous forest back to Andrian. Shortly before the path descends to Andrian, at the chestnut hill Schlosspichl, a natural monument, you can take a path at the northern end that leads to a small rise with a cross and several benches. From there you enjoy a magnificent view of the Etschtal.
