From the car park of Castelchiaro/Leuchtenburg in Novale al Varco/Kreith follow the street downhill towards Campi al Lago/Klughammer (trail no. 13) until you reach the intersection with trail no. 20, which leads through the Spring Valley. In February, when many parts of the region are still covered in snow, beautiful flowers are already appearing in the Spring Valley. After a total hiking time of 1,5 hours, you reach the end of the hike, the town of Monticolo/Montiggl. From Monticolo after another 15 minutes of hiking you can reach the Lakes of Monticolo. To return, follow the same path back in just over an hour.

Public transport
Arrival by public transport from Laives/Leifers: take bus line 110, 111 or 120 to the railway station in Bolzano/Bozen; change to bus line 131 and get off at the bus stop "Piazza Rottenburg/Rottenburgerplatz" (Caldaro/Kaltern). From there take bus line 130 to the bus stop "S. Giovanni al Lago/St. Josef am See" (Caldaro/Kaltern). After a 30-minute walk you arrive at the starting point of trail no. 20.
